Realization

“Ella! Ella! Are you okay?”

“Y-yeah… I’m okay. But… what was that? Lumia, did you see it too…?”

“That? No, I didn’t see anything. You suddenly collapsed, so I got worried. Ella… why are you crying?”

Startled by those words, Ella lifted her hand to her face.

“I… I’m… crying…?”

“Yes. Ella, you look like you’re in so much pain right now.”

“I don’t understand why… but maybe it was a memory. And along with it, sadness, pain, and hatred all came rushing in at once. And my feelings came with it too. I… I feel like there are two of me. Hey, Lumia… what is this?”

“That’s…”

“Lumia? Do you know something? If you do, please tell me.”

As she spoke, Ella’s face twisted as if she were crushing bitterness in her grasp. Wiping away her endless tears, she desperately tried to steady herself.

When I saw that expression, I made up my mind to tell her about El.

“Ella… so you saw it too. A fragment of this world’s memories.”

“Th-then… does that mean you know what this is?”
